May 3, 2015 Spring Flood

We headed out to Covo Hills after Sunday breakfast at the Mt. Carroll Cafe, my first trip of the season, Jeff's second. We drove up to the lodge before the rain started - but coming back down was another matter. The ground was so saturated, the wheels were spinning and going nowhere. Jeff had to get out the tractor to pull the van from the lodge driveway to the end of the upper road where the downward slope begins.

The rain flooded the cornfield and overflowed the creek, which had been excavated in the fall. The good news is the concrete bridge foundation held up.   Jeff was able to visualize the water drainage around the covered bridge area and start thinking about berms and grasses that would keep the area from flooding in the future. Good thing we were there!
