June 28, 2014 Growing it up and Tearing it down

The threatening noon time clouds took a turn away from the farm, until late at night when lighting lit up the sky and rain pounded hard on our tin roof, dispelling the need for hand watering in the morning.

Garlic is nearing the end of its growth cycle and will be ready to harvest in a few weeks.  Pumpkin plants are off to a great start in the original lower field by the ponds and a new spot behind the lodge.

Reclaiming the Milking Barn
Taking down the old barn is turning into a real adventure  with some unexpected surprises. I flipped a board to take the nails out and disturbed a sleeping bat. I got a good look at him before running off screaming to a nonchalant Jeff, who couldn't imagine what the ruckus was about.  The historic wood is being reclaimed for the covered bridge over the creek.

Looks like a banner corn crop

Mowing and Baling the Hay

Covo Hills was a real working farm today as Jared and his dad mowed and baled the upper hay field. Curious about the process, Jeff and I jumped on the ATV and followed the tractors.
